This article discusses the dynamics of historical events through a comparative history of a family, business and socio-cultural initiatives of the Nobel family in Russia in the 19th - early 20th centuries. The paper concludes that the relatives did an extensive job in addressing the major challenges of oil industry and produced results that kept the family firm active business and public for the long term
